NEW YORK - Computers in companies, hospitals and schools around the universe got stranded regularly rebooting themselves Wednesday after an antivirus module identified a normal Windows record as a virus.
McAfee reliable that a module refurbish it posted at 9 a.m. Eastern time caused the antivirus module for corporate business to misidentify a submissive file. It has posted a deputy refurbish for download.
McAfee could not contend how most computers were affected, but judging by online postings, the series was at slightest in the thousands and presumably in the hundreds of thousands.
McAfee pronounced it did not crop up that consumer versions of the module caused identical problems. It is questioning how the blunder happened "and will take measures" to forestall it from recurring, the association pronounced in a statement.
